Keeping up with the Reids: Bucket Lock Cottage

Sunday 26th July
Usual day at home. As it is Sunday and despite the weather turning rather overcast we decide to go for a drink at the local late in the afternoon. It is only a 20 minute walk to the Fleur de Lys at Lowsonford. http://www.fleurdelys-lowsonford.com/ It is very popular and most of the outdoor tables are taken. After a while it become clear that many of the people here have also been through our lock today, as they stop by to thank the kids for their help earlier in the day!

Monday 27th July
We are in a nice routine now. April and I go for a walk along the canal for a km or so first thing after my morning coffee, the kids are on lock duty from first thing until I drag them away to knuckle down to some school work then later in the afternoon we all go for a walk. Today we ventured off the tow path and into the fields, coming out after an hour or so just down by the Fleur de Lys pub.

Tuesday 26th July

Set off this morning for a walk to the Wootton Wawen marina, an 11km round trip.

Wednesday 27th July
Starting to run low on supplies, so after the school work session in the morning it is a trip into Warwick for a wander around, then a supermarket shop.

Thursday 28th July
It was inevitable that the rain would have to arrive and today is the day. Only brief showers though, and fined up in the afternoon, so we took the car and drove up to Lapworth to have a look at the Kingswood junction and the Lapworth flight of locks.

The Lapworth flights has 27 locks. About half way along it is the Kingswood junction, where narrowboats can turn through the Lapworth link and head along the Grand Union Canal.

A very pleasant place to walk a few kilometres, though not much boat activity in the basin or on the locks. After a good walk, the kids and Aaron set off in the car for home, but I decide to walk home along the canal. Even April decides that the car is a better option, so I am on my own with only the sheep, ducks and birds to disturb the peace. It is a very pleasant walk back especially as the sun comes out, though this of course is followed by quite a heavy downpour, in which I get totally soaked.
