Carbis Bay 1 May

Monday 1st May

We are on the road from the marina by 9.30 and off on the lengthy drive to Cornwall.  Despite our bank holiday fears, traffic is flowing well (at least in our direction) and we make ok time, despite a stop or 2 for leg stretches and snacks.  We arrive at our destination at about 3pm.

Tuesday 2nd May

sunny start to the day and we walk down the steep hill to the beach after breakfast.

Back at the apartment I set Holly up with some school work then walk along the coastal path to St Ives for a look around.  Aaron brings the kids along later. Eating an icecream along the harbour front Holly is ambushed by a giant seagull who brazenly snatches her cone out of her hand.

Later we walk back to Carbis Bay and Holly has a play on the sand before we hop in the car and drive to St Michael on the Mount in the hope of seeing some starling murmurations as the owner of a gallery tells us that she often sees them there but no luck this evening.

Friday 6th May

drove to Penzance to pick up sim card for Alex then we parked the car at Newlyn and walked on to Mousehole where we had crab sandwiches for lunch. Super windy.

Saturday 6th May
As it was raining and expected to continue to do so all day we set off for the Telegraph Museum near Land's End but on the way realised that it was almost lunchtime so diverted to the First & Last Inn at Sennen for lunch first. Enjoyed a variety of burgers and some smuggling history before continuing on to the museum for the afternoon


Sunday 7th April

Mylor Sailing School
Left before 9am to drive to Mylor Head near Falmouth for a sailing experience. As we were there in plenty of time the kids were sorted into their wetsuits, coats, lifejackets and helmets in good time ready to join the boat on the jetty at 10am.  There were 6 kids and as ours were the oldest they got to handle the sheets and tiller.  Holly was the only one brave enough to endure a freezing swim and then they hit a calm and had to be towed back in.

Afterwards we enjoyed lunch at the Mylor Cafe and then drove through Falmouth before returning home to brilliant sunshine and spending the rest of the afternoon in St Ives, crabbing and shopping.

Sunday 14 May
left apartment at 9.30 and drove Alex to St Erth station for his 9.55 train then on ourselves up the M5 towards Bristol, giving Holly a crash course on Australian history on the way.
Arrived at the Premier Inn at 1.30pm to find our room not quite ready, but by the time we had unloaded the car it was all set.  Lucky it's a big room!
Aaron took the car across to Andy's to meet a prospective buyer and the kids and I had a wander around Bristol and some M&S sandwiches.
After a successful sale we found a superb Lebanese restaurant for dinner
