By lunch time we are all packed up, suitcases downstairs and ready to load the car. As our hosts are not back until this evening and we are only going to outer London for our hotel, we set off for a couple of hours in town.
Lots of planned engineering on the this weekend and both our tube lines are down, so it bus all the way, which of course is well over an hour's trip.
Bus to the Tower, then we manage a tube in to Westminster. Handily close to the horse guards, so we of course walk past then make our way around the Covent Garden where there are numerous characters plying their craft for our amusement.
We get some pizza and then it's off to the park again for a last feed of squirrels before we depart.
Another long journey home via several tubes and buses, sees us arriving back by 6. Doesn't take long to load up the car and we are on our adventure across London. Goes surprisingly smoothly, with not too may delays with traffic and we find our Premier Inn in Uxbridge successfully.
As time is getting on we eat in the Beefeater on the premises. As it is fathers day they are busy and we have to wait a while for a table, but the food is good and plentiful when it arrives. It is nearly 10 when we are done though, so back to the room and off to sleep.
Monday 20th
Slept well as the room was very dark and quiet and we elect to enjoy the buffet for breakfast, though we probably haven't quite finished digested dinner yet. Rainy start to the day, glad we only have driving planned.
Full cooked breakfast with all the associated croissants, cereals, pancakes, muffins, bubble & squeak etc.
We eat enough to get us through the day then (enjoying the 12 o'clock check out) it is off on our way to Wales.
3 and a bit hours sees us arriving at our new house sit. After a brief encounter with the neighbours we find the correct driveway and meet our excellent hosts at around 3pm. From the moment we arrive we are welcomed as guests and after a chat and a look around Marion generously takes us for a tour around the local area to help us get our bearings. The house is an amazing 600 year old farmhouse.
In the evening they take us to their local for an excellent meal and then back home and off to bed as they have an early start for the airport.
Tuesday 21st June
Great nights sleep, wonder how many generations of people have slept in this house.
Spent the morning catching up on some neglected school work and enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
including the milk delivery
At about 2pm we set off for the local St Fagans museum of Welsh Life where we spend the rest of the afternoon.
When it closes at 5pm we find ourselves the local ASDA to stock up on food and Indian ready meals for dinner.
Cook up some rhubarb from the garden and settle in for the night.
