Spent the morning at home again doing school work after some squirrel antics
By late morning we were ready for out, and decided to use the park and ride to get into Cardiff for a mosey around.
Massive car park at the football stadium. You park the car and then all occupants can take the bus into Cardiff for 3.50. Of course it started to rain as we were waiting for the bus and stopped as the bus arrived.
The bus dropped us in Canal Street
and we had a wander around the shopping area before spending some time in the Cardiff Story museum learning a bit about Welsh life while we waited for the weather to clear.
We emerged to clearer skies and decided to walk around the bay.
The walk takes us down to Roald Dahl Plass as well as the Senedd - Royal Assembly Building and the Millenium Centre
Continued around the Bay, much of the pathway closed off in preparation of the Extreme Sailing event for next week.
Made it round to the Dr Who exhibition and the barrage.
Last bus back to the car park leaves at 6, so as time is getting on we decide it is better to turn back than try and get right around the bay, so we return in time to catch the 5:40 bus
Thursday 23rd
Woke to early sunshine so it is imperative to take advance of it and head out to Caerphilly Castle. As Aidan is up early with me we knock over some maths before Holly gets up.
SatNav lady decides it is best to ignore the nice M4 and the A470 and decides that narrow lanes are the more appropriate route, however as usual she does get us where we are going.
Stop off at a Lidl for a change and pick up some rolls, cheese and salami to take with us for lunch
Caerphilly castle is right in the centre of town, so stumbling across it is no problem.
Due to the restoration done by the Marquess of Bute and the reflooding of the moat, it is an extremely impressive castle.
We were quite lucky and there was a big school group going through with an excellent guide so we tagged on to some good and well presented information,
Friday 24th
Went to the mine at Rhondda. Took a guided tour with our guide Tony.
Afterwards we made a trip to Bridgend and had a wander around and some lunch, then on to Ogmore-by-sea to ehck out the Welsh coast.
Saturday 25th
Aaron & Aidan are off by 8am to go to the local rugby club where they are screening the Wales V New Zealand match.
Holly and I enjoy a peaceful and lazy morning at home. When the boys return, we decide that living in a 600 year old farm house is pointless if you don't stay in and enjoy it, so that is what we do. In between bursts of school work the kids amuse themselves outside in the extensive garden and playing baseball on the Wii. I make a short trip to ASDA and end up coming home with strawberries and cream which we enjoy after nipping out to the local carvery - The Holly Bush for a roast dinner. The kids enjoy the long evening by hooning around some more on the tricycle.
