Filey March 10-15th

Friday 10th March

Packed up in Stamford and made the 3 hour drive to Filey and our holiday let in The Bay.

Arrived at about 4pm and the kids were keen first up for a swim at the leisure centre.  Made a trip into Filey for the Tesco

Down on the pier I saw a man with a board

It read ‘the end is near, accept your lord.

Then underneath this some fisherman wrote.

‘I can see the end from the back of my boat

‘This is wintertime.

Saturday 11th March

I went for a walk first thing down to the beach, then we drove into Filey for a walk along the Brigg and a poke around the town and some fish and chips.  Then we drove out to Flamborough Heads for a look at the cliffs and the lighthouse before coming home for another swim.

Sunday 12th March

Drove into Filey to see the Lifeboat go out for training.  Missed it going out so had to wait around for it to come back in.  Kids had a great time scavenging coins in the amusement arcade and playing the penny fall machines in the meantime.

Later in the afternoon the sun came out and Aidan & I walked down to the beach and along the sand almost to Filey

Monday 13th March

Sun shining brightly this morning, so after a swim we set off for Pickering for a look at the market town.

 St Peter and St Paul Parish Church has one of the most complete set of medieval wall frescoes in Britain.  Painted in around 1450, they were discovered in 1852 during restoration but subsequently covered again in whitewash as the vicar felt they were a distraction to his sermons.

Stopped on the way back at Thornton Le Dale for a wander.

Tuesday 14
Last day Filey. In the afternoon we drove across to ...  to meet the owners of our return sit on 4th April.


Wednesday 15th March
Aidan's birthday.  Started the day with french toast and a few little presents before loading up the car for our drive across Yorkshire towards Kirkby Lonsdale. As we passed by York, we took a detour ti the Waitrose, parked the car and walked the short way along the wall to Gatehouse Coffee where we enjoyed a nice cup and hot chocolates before continuing on our way.

We arrived just before 3pm at Gillian and Evan's in time to be shown around, meet the neighbours and the lovely Jake before they left for their trip to France.  Holly and I whipped up a birthday cake for Aidan  and then we decided to go into Kirkby Lonsdale for a birthday dinner at the Indian restaurant which was very nice.
